The lecture, “Operation Tiger and Neptune – D-Day at Sea” by Rear Admiral Samuel Cox, US Navy (Ret.) and Director of the Naval History and Heritage Command, will explore the strategic, historical, and human dimensions of D-Day and the Allied campaign in Normandy. A brief reception with refreshments will follow the lecture. Sponsored by the Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee.

Enjoy an evening at Waterfront Park to celebrate the food, wine, klapa, and tamburica, to commemorate Team Croatia’s Team Base Camp in Alexandria for the World Cup.
Traditional Croatian musical performances by Muška klapa Podvorje (Croatian acapella group) and Authentic Croatian Tamburitza Band will be there. Savor authentic Croatian food and wine from Old House Cosmopolitan and enjoy interactive games from the Museum of Illusions. As America celebrates their 250th birthday this year, come join us in celebrating with a concert honoring and highlighting American composers and music! Our free concert, A Journey Through American Music, will highlight American artists and composers throughout America’s musical history. From jazz to marches to film music and everything in between, come join us on Saturday, June 6 at Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Rec Center for a fun and engaging musical time celebrating America’s past and bright future. Our concert is at 3pm, but come by at 2pm for fun, family activities that will include games, crafts, and an instrument petting zoo where you can learn more about the individual band instruments. Sails on the Potomac: Alexandria Commemorates America’s 250th

Alexandria will be hosting Sails on the Potomac as a Sail Virginia℠ 2026 Affiliate Harbor. From the creation of the Fairfax Resolves to being the hometown of George Washington, Alexandria played a unique role in the birth of our new nation and its impact on today. Join us as we commemorate America’s Story with music, family activities, exhibits, tours, public art, educational programs and more!
With centuries of history and hospitality to its credit, Sail Virginia℠ 2026 Affiliate Harbor Alexandria offers an array of historic and cultural attractions. As the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, Sails on the Potomac will highlight Alexandria’s role in helping construct the foundation of the revolution. Sails on the Potomac will host the tall ships Gazella, Kalmar, Nyckel, Providence and Sultana as part of their event.

Celebrate three days of live music at the Alexandria Waterfront as the ALX Jazz Fest expands for its 48th year as part of Sails on the Potomac. This year’s festival happening Friday, June 12 through Sunday June 14, anchors Alexandria’s participation in the nation’s 250th commemoration, featuring a full weekend of performances that highlight the city’s musical past, present, and future. Admission to the festival is free.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon: Freedom Before Emancipation – Family Day for Juneteenth

Join Mount Vernon as we celebrate Juneteenth by remembering how enslaved people resisted enslavement and sought freedom before the Emancipation Proclamation.
Watch musical performances and see special character performances from actors portraying William Lee, Tobias Lear, and Martha Washington.
Plus, take a tour of the estate, watch spinning, cooking, and blacksmith demonstrations, and honor the lives of the enslaved at a commemoration ceremony. Details at visitalexandria.com.

Get ready for an unforgettable evening under the stars at our 2026 Pride Prom! This year’s theme, Starry Night, invites LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13-20 to celebrate identity, community, and joy in a vibrant, affirming space. Expect music, performances, food, dancing, and a night full of magic.
The four pillars that surround Pride Prom: Education, Compassion, Action and Celebration. Pride Prom is fun! Students (and chaperones!) routinely report that it is their favorite day of the year and that they cannot wait for next year’s event!
